The Search for the Next White House Pet

Forget about Cabinet picks, people really want to know what type of dog will be moving in to the White House!

Before Bush’s dog Barney and Clinton’s cat Socks, there were many animals that strolled (and climbed, and slithered) through the halls of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. With all the ballyhoo over what kind of dog the Obama girls will bring to their new home, White House Pets look back past the Bush years at all the President’s and their furry (and sometimes no-so-furry) friends, including:

George Washington found time between winning the Revolutionary War and founding the nation to own ten hounds: Taster, Cloe, Tipler, Forester, Captain, Lady Rover, Vulcan, Sweetlips, Madame Moose and Searcher.

Theodore Roosevelt, who worked hard on his macho image, kept a pit bull, Pete, that nearly provoked a diplomatic incident when it attacked the French Ambassador, tearing the seat out of his trousers. Roosevelt didn’t just stop at dogs though, he also had a bear, a badger, a macaw, a lizard, a hyena, snakes, guinea-pigs, a hen, a rooster with one leg, a rabbit, three ponies and a barn owl.

FOUR KIDS WHO SPEND THEIR LIVES IN WHEELCHAIRS GO ZERO-G ON NICK NEWS WITH LINDA ELLERBEE: THE VIEW FROM MY CHAIR PREMIERING NOV. 16 ON NICKELODEON

NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2008 – There are kids all around the world who, for one physical reason or another, will live much of their lives in wheelchairs. What is it like to be them? What do you think it would be like for you? Four extraordinary kids invite us into their world and their lives, asking us to really see the “view from my chair,” and then, along with Emmy Award-winning journalist Linda Ellerbee, they go on a Zero-Gravity flight in which they achieve weightlessness, on Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: The View From My Chair, premiering Sunday, Nov. 16, at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

“A friend of mine who has used a wheelchair for many years reminded me that the problem is not the chair — it’s gravity. So we thought it might be fun to go on an adventure where we could leave gravity behind,” said Ellerbee.”

Juan, from Tampa, Fla., who has muscular dystrophy, says of his life, “When I first started to be in the chair… people started staring at me. I started to feel kind of weird and I said, ‘Why are they staring at me?’ But I’ve never been ashamed of being in a wheelchair.’”

The president of 4KidsEntertainment made some surprise revelations in a recent press conference about the lineups. Among them was the revelation that both Viva Piñata and Dinosaur King would be moving from 4KidsTV to the CW4Kids lineup to air their new seasons. There was also a mention of the change in name of the new to air series Smeshariki, which will now be known as GOGORiKi, with episodes airing some time later in the fall.

As of now, the September 13, 2008 (and thereafter) lineup for CW4Kids will be:

I love the cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender. I fell in love with this show after I reviewed Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Entire Book Two Collection. I had never seen the Nickelodeon show. It was one of those shows my son had missed watching. Needless to say, it wasn’t long before all of us (Ash, the O.G. Kid (our son) and me) were hooked. Avatar became a mainstay in our household and we quickly caught up on the season we missed by watching reruns on the Nick Toons network. So, when we heard that Avatar was planning three or four more seasons, we were thrilled!

Then the writer’s strike happened. Television was all messed up. Avatar: The Last Airbender had a messed up season. Rather than air the third season all in order, Nickelodeon decided to take a hiatus from the show. It aired reruns of Zoey 101 and Spongebob in its time slot. Needless to say, the hordes of Avatar fans, myself included, were not very happy. Then, to add insult to injury, the last few episodes aired in a one week span, building up to the “ultimate” Avatar, TV movie . Made up of the last four episodes of the season, “Sozin’s Comet” was said to be the last episode of the show…ever.

This was a major disservice to both the series and the fans of the show. Nickelodeon really didn’t seem to care if Avatar aired on the network. Talk of four more seasons ended abruptly and the word on the street is that “Sozin’s Comet” is the last episode to air on Nickelodeon and for the series period. Sure, there are a lot of things that seem to point towards “maybe” an additional season. IMDB would have the series end date as 2008, but the show still shows 2005-????, which is typical for a show that is still in production. The finale didn’t answer some very important questions, specifically, where is Zuko’s mother? There hasn’t seemed to be a formal announcement about the end of the series, and the Nickelodeon advertisements aired during the show had it listed as the series finale, but the announcer on the ads actually called it the “season” finale instead.
