The downfall to Netflix, as most subscribers have realized, is that they do not offer brand new movies. In fact, this is the only real downfall to Netflix. Still, they succeed because they offer so many good older movies and some amazing newer television shows. The addition of Starz Play doesn’t hurt either, especially if you don’t subscribe to Starz.

Still, some days I want to watch new releases. If Redbox offered a streaming service (unlimited, that is) I would certainly sign up. However, the only movie rental company that offers streaming is Blockbuster and it is offered at a ridiculous price. Luckily, I was offered a chance to review the Movies on Demand service and I decided to give it a whirl. Movies on Demand is a pay-per-view type service. Offering prices comparable to the video store, you can order movies with the click of a button and avoid the perils of having to visit a video store, fight over new releases, and there is no pain of having to leave the house, to return them the next day.

Offering a service as simple as can be, Movies on Demand allows you to pick from new releases and in some cases, you can view movies (at a higher price) that have not even been released in theaters. The cost of each movie ranges from $1.99 to $9.99 or more if you’re watching an actual pay-per-view event such as WWE or UFC. Most of the new releases are $2.99-$3.99, which is fair considering this is similar or less than the cost at most movie stores these days.

We were sent a gift card to choose some movies and try the service out. To put it simply, I love Movies on Demand. Like Netflix, MoD pleases the lazy person in me. I can pop some popcorn, lay on the couch, and enjoy the cheapest form of entertainment ever made, short of something free. Movies on Demand offers something for virtually everyone. We chose a variety of movies from The Last Airbender (what a huge mistake that was) to Inception. Horror fans will also be pleased to know that there are usually a number of titles to choose from on the MoD list of offerings. We had a chance to watch about six or seven films with the $30 gift card that we received for this review.

While we didn’t love every movie we picked in the few nights that we reviewed Movies on Demand, we do love the service as a whole. This is fabulous for people too busy to deal with the hassle of renting movies. It’s also a great service for people short on money. As the fee for each movie goes on your cable bill rather than being an up front cost, as long as you’re not watching every movie on the service, it gives you a chance to receive entertainment even when you’re waiting for your next pay check.

The Movies on Demand service is available through your cable guide and most likely on the Internet through your cable providers website. Each channel (there are many to accommodate all of the various movie choices) is clearly labeled as MoD (or Movies on Demand). You just choose the movie you want to watch and the cost will be added to your bill. The price for each movie will show when you’re on the info screen for the movie. You also have an additional chance to cancel your purchase, should you hit “Play” on accident.

All in all, this is a great service and as someone that spends plenty of time working at home, it’s great to know that I can take some time off without having to actually leave home to do it.

Novica offers everything from furniture to kitchenware. Knowing that we needed some unique items for the kitchen led me to looking at everything from salad bowls to drinking glasses. I had $75 to spend, which is often not a lot of money when you’re buying for the home, but Novica does have a nice variety of lower priced items, so if you’re looking for something small or practical you can often make your money go a long way.

After much deliberation about what was going to make our new living space shine, we decided to go with some drinking glasses and a glass pitcher. To be more specific we ended up choosing, the Spirals of Thought Glasses in Blue and the Glass Pitcher in Aqua.

Javier and Efren are the artisans that made our Spirals of Thought Glasses. These glasses are far more beautiful than the picture gives these men credit for. You really do need to see them to fully appreciate them. Each glass is slightly unique due to the fact that they are actually hand blown. The glass is quite thick, which I enjoyed as I am used to the standard sets bought in stores that are plain and often break quite easily due to being lightweight. These two men have been working together since the 1990s and offer excellent products. We received a six glass set for $39.99, which was an incredibly fair price for the thickness and the beauty of the glasses. We couldn’t be happier with them.

Since we have had them, they have been put to the test. They have been used daily for our family and when we have guests. My big worry with them (as with any glasses) had to do with the staying power of the glasses. I don’t know how many times I have purchased a set of glasses only to see them break during washing or after daily wear and tear. We’ve had these glasses for quite a bit and so far we have only lost one. It actually had more to do with a pan slipping out of my hand while washing dishes, as opposed to actually breaking the glass for other reasons.

Javier and Efren also make the Glass pitcher in Aqua. Unlike the Spiral glasses, which have a blue rim and spirals of blue running along the clear glass, the glass pitcher is clear with the exception of a thick aqua colored rim. I cannot say how invaluable this has been to me. We tend to make a lot of frozen juice and this pitcher is the perfect size for that. It sits in the refrigerator with no problem and it makes any flavor juice we want with room to spare. We’ve had friends comment on how much they like it, and we have to agree, we are big fans of it, too. The pitcher was available for under $30, though the last time I checked the website it was not currently available.

With every purchase you make, the artisan that creates your item includes a story card so you can learn more about them and the process behind making your items. This was a nice added touch that I enjoyed seeing in the package. Due to the fact that most items are handmade, shipping can take between one and three weeks. While this could be seen as a deterrent for some, the quality is certainly worth the wait. It’s safe to say you won’t find anything like what you can find at Novica during a local shopping trip! So, if you’re in the market for a great holiday gift or need some unique home furnishings you should give Novica a look, chances are you’ll find just what you’re looking for and a whole lot more.

We received a box of Cottonelle Moist Flushable Wipes with some pretty basic instructions. We just had to use them and explain our thoughts. So, I got the box and hung it in the bathroom (the box comes with a nifty EasyReach hanger) and we set out to using them. We do not have any young kids in the house, so it was just some parents and a teen using these. That being said, I quickly noticed how helpful these could be in a household with smaller children. Not only could they be used for the most obvious reasons, you can also use them to clean up hands, freshen up a face, or to un-dirty a messy child.

I found myself using these for a number of unconventional reasons. I did use them for hand cleansing quite a bit. Even when washing my hands in the sink, the Cottonelle served as a small washcloth of sorts. Once done, I could pop it into the toilet and flush it down the next time someone used the bathroom. They were also nice when cooking, too, because they allowed me to clean my hands without constantly washing them and wasting excess water in the process. When I used the Cottonelle wipes I just had to wash my hands once before cooking and then use the wipes until dinner was prepared.

As far as the bathroom goes, from a female aspect I have grown to appreciate Cottonelle Flushable Wipes more than I ever could toilet paper. If you’ve ever been left feeling less than clean when using toilet paper, you know how uncomfortable it can be. I never had that feeling when using Cottonelle. In fact, fabulously fresh all day long! We used a lot less toilet paper and didn’t have any problems with irritation or dryness the entire time, which makes sense since the wet wipes are incredibly soothing to the skin.

I remember growing up and my mom telling me never to put things like wet naps and other products that were not toilet paper in the toilet because it would back it up. If you were thinking that might happen with Cottonelle Flushable wipes, you can think again. Each Cottonelle wipe breaks down when flushed just like toilet paper would so you don’t have to worry about anything backing up or having any problems when you use these.

Prior to this review I had considered buying Cottonelle wipes. I found them at stores like Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Kmart, though I am sure you can find them just about anywhere that you might buy your toilet paper (especially if they stock Cottonelle). At a couple bucks per box, these are well worth it. The EasyReach hanger makes using these wipes as easy as if it were toilet paper. You will be shocked at the difference that comes from using these wipes. Now that I’ve tried them I cannot imagine going back to just toilet paper!

To give you an idea about the health benefits of PopChips over other brands, I will just say that each snack bag is 100 calories with only 3.5 grams of fat! PopChips are also made from only all natural ingredients, which make them a great option for the whole family.

I have to agree with PopChips. I hate baked chips and while I love fried ones, they aren’t the best part of my diet. So even though I was mildly confused and certainly curious about the process that makes PopChips possible, I saw the flavors and was certainly hopeful that they tasted as good as they sound. While flavors like Sea Salt & Vinegar Potato are not really to our liking around here, and Salt & Pepper and Original are tempting, it is flavors like Parmesan Garlic, Cheddar Potato, Sour Cream and Onion, and Barbeque that are absolutely irresistible.

Come to find out, it took precisely one chip for me to become smitten with PopChips. I think Dominick said the same, too. We were sent snack sized bags for each flavor and found ourselves fighting over each of the bags. We managed to share most of them, but it was hard when we kept finding we had the same favorites! It’s moments like these that I wish we were not so much alike because then I could have had some of these great flavors all to myself.

While we sampled most of ours on our own, it’s worth noting that these would make a great party snack. Not only will your guests love them and undoubtedly want to know more about them, you will have the joy of knowing that you’re giving your guests something low fat and relatively good for them. Chances are, PopChips will offer a good chance at starting a conversation, too. After all, when you tell people the chips they are eating are not baked, were not fried, and are actually pretty good for them, they are definitely going to want to know more.

You can pick up PopChips at various stores near you. While they aren’t available in all chains just yet, you can find them in such retailers as Target, Whole Foods, Jamba Juice, and SafeWay. The question is not whether or not you should try these chips or not, but what flavor you should pick. I know if I found these flavors on a store shelf I would be standing there for quite some time, unsure of which to choose. Of course, it wouldn’t be too long before I probably decided to go with Parmesan Garlic and Cheddar Potato to start with plans to try the others later.

No matter which flavor you choose just make sure to consider picking up two bags because they are some of the most addictive chips that we have ever had. If you only try one new brand of chips this year, make sure to give PopChips a try. They are some of the best chips that I have ever experienced!

On my most recent shopping trip, I succumbed to buying some K-Cups, because I found them in Pumpkin Spice. While I am not a huge coffee drinker, I have an insane love relationship with all things pumpkin spice, especially coffee. I used to live at Starbucks in the winter, but I refuse to pay $4-5 a day for one coffee. So, I’ve been missing it and thought that I had found a solution. What I learned is that K-Cups don’t offer a good pumpkin spice option.

Around this time I was sent an email asking me to try Dunkin’ Donuts seasonal coffees. I figured I would give it a try since they were offering three flavors and one of them was pumpkin spice. At least in this instance, if the flavor wasn’t all I had hoped for it would not cost me $10 to figure that out. The team at Mom Central and Dunkin’ Donuts sent over three bags off coffee for us to test out. We received Vanilla Nut, Mocha Mint, and Pumpkin Spice.

My first impression was love at first smell. I took them out of the box and was compelled to smell them for some reason. I usually don’t become excited at the scent of coffee, but this smelled remarkably like the flavors listed on the package. I figured that could only mean good things. I mean, after all, if it smelled that much like pumpkin or mint, it had to taste like it too, right?

After making and trying each particular flavor I found it hard to choose a favorite. I knew that I would gladly drink each flavor again, if given the chance. I also knew that as these appear to just be seasonal flavors, that I would be sad to see them go when the season ends. The aroma and taste of each were able to meet or beat every possible expectations that I had. In fact, I was quite, pleasantly surprised at the results produced by this review. I had never had Dunkin’ Donuts coffee before and while I have always been a fan of their donuts I have never even considered buying any of their coffee.

The pumpkin spice was probably the flavor that I was the happiest with, merely because it’s been a while since I have been able to indulge. Not only that, but I also realized that this is a cost effective solution that will allow me to continue drinking the flavored coffee I love. While prices will vary from store to store, I am sure that none of the stores around Dayton are selling bags of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee at prices that would equal more than $4 a cup.

Consequently, the flavor I was most surprised with was the Mocha Mint. I knew I was probably going to like Vanilla Nut, since it’s such a basic staple in terms of coffee flavors (well, at least the vanilla part, anyway), and I knew that I normally enjoy mint flavoring and mocha, but was not positive I was going to love it as much as I knew I probably would the other flavors. Come to find out, it was definitely one of the most pleasing.

I recently received a milk frother for our upcoming holiday gift guide and the combination of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and the milk frother to create those swanky coffee bar drinks is out of this world. I don’t have to leave my house to experience that café style of caffeinated goodness anymore. I just have to stock up on Dunkin Donuts coffee and milk and go into my kitchen to enjoy a great start to my day (or afternoon…or evening…).

As if you couldn’t tell, this review has allowed me to become a fan of Dunkin Donuts coffee. If you have not tried it out yet and you like flavored coffee, I highly recommend finding some in your store before the holiday flavors disappear. I am sure the other flavors offered by Dunkin Donuts are good too, but you definitely don’t want to miss out on the pumpkin spice, mocha mint, or the vanilla nut depending on your flavor preference.

These were fabulous and I am so glad that I got to try them because they have definitely won me over and will be receiving my business in the future.

For this experiment we got to test out how Wisk does with Oil stains. To handle the review, we were given a nice washcloth, a makeup bag with a compact mirror and some hot pink lipstick, and a bottle of the new red bottle of Wisk. The goal was to pretty up with the lipstick, stain the washcloth with a saucy lip print, pre-treat with Wisk, and rinse it off to see the final result.

The lipstick didn’t have any trouble sticking to the white washcloth that was provided. It was just a quick smack to the cloth with a press to make sure it would be visible enough and then we were ready to pre-treat. The pre-treat phase lasted for about ten minutes. We just poured enough Wisk to cover the lip marks on the stain and let it sit to work on the lipstick.

Once the pre-treating was done, my young assistant was kind enough to rub the soap into the cloth so that it would get deep into the fibers. From there, we entered the bathroom and he washed the cloth in warm water until the soap was completely off of the washcloth. We gave it a few minutes to dry after ringing the water out, though by this point we could already see that the stain was all but gone. Naturally, washing it in the washer would have made sure that every part of the small stain had disappeared, but I didn’t notice much of anything left after the hand washing. I thought I noticed a slight pink outline at first, but looking back I cannot seem to find it.

I have to admit, by the time we did this experiment, I figured out how the outcome was going to go. We tackled grass and ketchup with glowing results, so I figured lip gloss would not break the winning streak that Wisk seemed to be on.

Still I have remained hopeful that he would be willing to step up his game and make strides in this area. Since he does not like to brush his teeth we often try to find flavored toothpaste or mouth wash that he can enjoy and that makes things more bearable to him. Since he likes Listerine (Total Health) we usually don’t have a problem in that area. In the past, we tried to convince him to use the Listerine Smart Rinse for an added layer to help get his teeth looking good. Unfortunately, he would never agree to go for it. He always had an excuse and in the end he just never wanted to use it.

All of this changed though when he agreed to take part in the Reach/Listerine Oral Health Challenge. The goal was to use the two types of Listerine (Smart Rinse before brushing and regular mouthwash afterward) provided with a new Reach toothbrush (also provided) and finish everything off with some Reach Floss (either the floss sticks or regular floss). I admit I was skeptical and just thought that he agreed in hopes of being part of the experiment, but that he wouldn’t follow through.

Well I was wrong. I was shocked to see how absolutely full the box was that came for the challenge. We received as many as four bottles of Smart Rinse and two or three of the regular Listerine. I knew from experience that the blue Smart Rinse would not go over well (we love it, he doesn’t), but he agreed to try the pink berry kind that was also included. Day one of the challenge went off without a hitch. He really gave his mouth a washing with the Smart Rinse, then he followed it up with a scrubbing using Colgate (we had this in our bathroom, it was not provided for the challenge) and a provided Reach toothbrush. Things ended up with another dose of Listerine (he opted for the new kind, Listerine Zero) and a quick (but more thorough than I expected) use of the floss stick.

We also used everything that was provided. Dominick immediately commented that the combination of all of the provided ingredients and the Colgate from our bathroom made his teeth feel cleaner. I would have to agree. Occasionally I notice that filmy taste even after I brush. Listerine after brushing does take it away usually, but I found with the use of the Smart Rinse, my teeth felt much cleaner before using the second dose of Listerine. I also love how much gunk and food that the Smart Rinse gets off of your teeth. That’s one of the thing that all three of us marveled about as we brushed our teeth together.

About a week into the challenge, our son came to me and announced proudly that he was really enjoying the challenge. In fact, he likes it so much he said that he wants to continue brushing this way even when the challenge is over. This was incredible news, but the best news to me is that he likes doing this so much I no longer have to beg him to brush and I do not have to stand over him. His teeth are looking healthier (as are everyone’s in the home) and they are getting whiter, too.

He really likes the fact that the Listerine Zero does not have the strong intense, Listerine burn that normally comes with the mouthwash. While it does offer a strong feeling, it is nothing compared to the standard burn that the regular Mint flavor offers. So, the combination of products worked fine on the pickiest tooth brusher that I could find. The rest of us were pretty fond of things, too.

Listerine and Reach have teamed up with America’s Toothfairy in order to launch “Trick or Treat for America’s Toothfairy.” The campaign was put into place in order to raise awareness of pediatric dental disease. We have reviewed water pitchers before. I enjoyed the one that we previously used, but soon after the review, I stopped using it. I did not have a problem with the water so much, but I just don’t drink water. Most water pitchers are bulky and our refrigerator really didn’t have much room so we stopped putting it in there and stopped using it as a result.

Since then, I have had a glass of water here and there, but generally have avoided it, until we received the 3M Filtrete Water Pitcher. When we get something like this for review, I try it whether or not I think I will end up using it in the long run. Part of the reason is because I want to ensure that it works the way it should and that it offers a good quality. I can appreciate most things even if I do not feel they are right for me.

We unpacked the Filtrete and had it together in less than a minute. You just pop the top filter on and that’s pretty much all you do. The cover is placed on after you’ve filled the pitcher with water. Aesthetically speaking, the Filtrete is adorable. The base is small and it scoops upward to a much wider mouth. The base is clear to allow you an unobstructed view to see the water level. Meanwhile, the handle and base of the mouth is white and the cover/lid is blue. If you have the lid off you will notice a filter meter that lets you know when you need to replace the filter.

One of my favorite things about the Filtrete water pitcher is how fast it fills. With other water pitchers filling them up can be a process. With the Filtrete I was able to put it under the faucet with a medium heavy stream of water and have it filter the water fast enough to ensure that I didn’t have to turn the water off. Even when I turned the water pressure up to full strength, I rarely had to turn the water off. The filtration process to create a full pitcher of water took at most, about two minutes. This beats out the other pitchers we’ve owned or reviewed by at least three to five minutes if not more.

The taste is what caused me to really be impressed though. People often look at me like I’m crazy when I say that I don’t like the taste of water. I know that in most cases water doesn’t really have a taste. However, some water offers a slightly metallic taste or even an aftertaste. This is off-putting to me and tends to keep me away from most waters and even the filter pitchers. Filtrete water is the cleanest tasting water I have ever experienced. There was no real taste and no aftertaste. It just felt cool and refreshing! Since trying this, I have had at least one glass of water a day and I don’t think that will be changing anytime soon.

You can pick the 3M Filtrete Water Pitcher up at most local discount stores and online at stores like Amazon, where it retails for around $32. The box includes one of the filters you will need, but you can purchase additional filters for under $15. We’ve been using our Filtrete for close to two weeks and it’s large enough to ensure that you get around 8-12 cups (depending on size) out of each full pitcher. It takes us about 2-3 days of use before we need a refill. So far we have not had to seek out a new filter and the levels are not high enough for us to have to worry about it for a bit.

Thanks to such a good experience I am considering checking out the Filtrete Water Station that lets you fill water bottles for on the go use. The station is under $45 on Amazon and would get enough use that it would definitely be worth it to us.

After checking out the selection that is available on BedroomFurniture.com I have to say that I think I have narrowed it down to a leather headboard. There were quite a few options for upholstered headboards, but I kept coming back to the leather options. While any headboard has the ability to be pricey (especially if you buy it in the wrong place) BedroomFurniture.com offers a nice selection and fair prices.

Many of the leather headboards will run around the $300 mark. This is not out of the ordinary for a headboard like this. If you’ve ever purchased a set with a leather headboard you probably know how expensive they can be. If you are interested in a specific headboard but find the set is too expensive, this could be a way to minimize your cost.

My three favorite headboards that I found were similar only in the fact that they were leather*. The first, pictured above is a tufted leather headboard featured in brown, made by Skyline Furniture. I have always been fond of brown leather and I love the basic pattern shown here. The indented dots give you something more than the standard plain leather, which is nice, but it’s subtle enough to blend in to whatever you might decide to do to your bedroom design-wise.

The other two I chose for two reasons. First I really do like them and feel they would compliment any bedroom outfit. The second reason is that they are actually Faux leather and therefore much cheaper. Both headboards below are made by Backdrop.

The first offers the squared, boxed in look. In this case it is light enough to just offer some shape and some lines to a basic bedroom necessity. While your eyes generally aren’t drawn to the lines, they do offer something that cannot be understated. Without them this particular headboard would feel overly drab and just plain.

Of course, with this next one, which is similar black leather, I have that it is so subtle I almost missed the lines. For a moment, I thought this was going to be plain leather, which would work beautifully on a smaller headboard. However, upon enlarging the picture, I found the wide, but subtle lines and boxes. The difference here is that there are no buttons, which works perfectly with this setup. As this is smaller I really enjoy the almost muted design feature. From a distance it might appear one way, but up close it offers a different look and feel. When you’re working with a larger piece that takes up more space, I feel the architectural designs make all the difference in the world.

This is our third post and second experiment working with Wisk. The first experiment went fabulously well, but when I got this package I have to admit, I was skeptical. You see, this package contained a hamburger press, a cooler, a basting brush, a White t-shirt, and ketchup (I bet you can see where this is headed). That’s right, the goal of this experiment is to see who is mightier – ketchup or Wisk. My apprehension was not in assuming that Wisk couldn’t handle it because in the last few weeks I’ve become a huge Wisk fan. It’s actually because, growing up, I was never allowed to wear white for fear of the dreaded stain possibilities (including ketchup).

I am happy to report that our little Wisk party/cookout went well. The burger press was a favorite, but my little helper ended up partiying herself out and before I knew it I was left to do the experiment on my own. I am glad to report she is feeling all better and when doing the experiment, we made sure she painted her design on the shirt. From there, like most kids, she left the cleaning to the mom in the room.

As you can see a big X was painted on the brand new, white t-shirt. The goal was to paint a design on the shirt, pre-treat it with Wisk, wait five minutes, and then rinse it out until all the soap was off the shirt. From there, it was just a matter of seeing how much of a stain remained. We have one post left. So far we have tackled protein (with our grass patch in our first Wisk Experiment) and now Carbs (ala ketchup stains). The final one will include an oil base of some sort, because Wisk can handle those stains, as well.

After covering the stain in Wisk, we let it sit for about five minutes. Naturally, the only difference at this time is that the stain changed from strictly red to red and partially blue (the Wisk). The ketchup was muted by the Wisk due to it getting wet with the soap. As I waited I hoped that it worked. I was pretty confident (I haven’t found a stain that Wisk couldn’t tackle since I started using it), but I am used to years of ‘don’t spill the ketchup on your clothes’ fear.

During the rinse phase, which took about three to five minutes to wash the soap away in the sink, I noticed the cleaning process began immediately! I definitely was relieved about that. I don’t normally wash my clothes in the sink even though the basic elements of washing are the same. Once the soap was out, I rung out the shirt and opened it up to find the ketchup almost completely gone. There is an extremely light tint to it that is really only noticeable because I knew where the ketchup was on the shirt. I have a feeling that if the shirt is (or had been) tossed in the washer for a thorough cleaning that it would have come out completely.

As usual, thus far, I was thrilled to see the results from this Wisk experiment. It’s nice to know that the usual disasters that come with kids (and some adults) wearing white are a little more bearable thanks to the right detergent. At the beginning of our Wisk campaign we received a bottle of Wisk with our first package. I’ve done quite a few loads since August when we received it, but I should have enough to finish out the last post later this month. Even if I don’t, it won’t matter too much because at this point I am sold and will be picking up some Wisk when this bottle runs out!
