Feeding America, the country’s top domestic hunger-relief charity, along with Dreamworks Pictures (and more specifically, The Help), are teaming up this holiday in order to help feed the many Americans that are plagued with hunger.

The Help will hit store shelves on December 6, but a national donation campaign will run from December 1 to December 11 to help gather both food and money in order to help feed the 1 in 6 people in the U.S. that are unable to eat on a daily basis.

Feeding America had this to say:

“The economic downturn really hurt American families,” said Feeding America Director of Media Relations Ross Fraser. “As a nation, we need to come together to help our neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet. The collaboration between FEEDING AMERICA and the producers of THE HELP is a great example of how we can come together to make a difference.”

There are a number of ways that you can help feed the many families that are in need this holiday season. Feeding America and The Help are asking consumers to contribute in the following ways:

Online Donations: Each dollar that is donated can help Feeding America provide up to eight meals to people that are going hungry! For people that make donations on Feeding America’s Website between December 1 and 11 you can expect a limited-time $5.00 off coupon toward the purchase of the film The Help. Not only that, but Touchstone Pictures will offer matching donations of up to $10,000 in hopes of offering more than 200,000 meals to hungry families.

Social Media: Throughout December, Facebook and Twitter followers of The Help will be encouraged to take action in their local communities. The Help accounts will be posting messages about how you can get involved and will be asking for feedback from people that are working on helping out in their local community.

Donate Food!: If you live in the major cities of Manhattan, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas, or Atlanta you should be able to find Feeding America and The Help themed donation boxes in your area throughout the month of December! The food collected in each city will be distributed at that area’s local Feeding America food bank. It is requested that you consider donating foods that are most commonly asked for, including cereal, pasta, rice and beans, canned fruits, canned vegetables, soups, canned tuna, canned chicken or turkey, peanut butter, and 100% fruit juice.

Unprecedented Demand For Food Assistance

The state of the economy is affecting more Americans than any other time in recent history. The US Department of Agriculture reports that 49 million Americans are food insecure. FEEDING AMERICA reports a 46 percent increase in the number of people seeking emergency food assistance through their nationwide network of food banks compared to four years ago.

These protesters are hard working Americans. Many of them with college degrees they are forced to pay for despite not having a job befitting their education level. These protesters are using a voice that has been stifled by greed and ignorance for far too long.

These voices represent the 99%. These are a group of people that live their lives trying to do what’s right, but will never attain the “American Dream” no matter how hard they work because corporations and the top 1% have more pull with politicians to save their money while we are drowning in debt. We aren’t asking for your money. We are asking for equality.

I don’t have a trust-fund and have yet to meet anyone at the protests that do. I believe that even if any of us had one, we would still be there for our brothers and sisters that won’t see a better day because of the level of corporate greed that has enveloped this nation.

My life isn’t meaningless. I like my life and the way that I live it. These days, I can even say I am proud to be American. In fact, I find that the protests have made me prouder in this country than I have ever been. I am shocked that they took this long, but I am glad they are happening now and I hope that the amazing people protesting continue to use their voices until things change.

In short, Mr. Limbaugh I would like to say…fuck you. I know it’s a simple statement, but it is one that makes the most sense at this time. As one of the 1% you have no idea what you are talking about. You’re worried about your money and you’re not even smart enough to see that we don’t want it. In fact, you can continue to spend your money on hookers and illegal prescription medicines as you have done in the past. None of that is my business, or concern. My only concern is that you pay your fair share in taxes. I don’t mean the amount that the lobbyists and corrupt politicians have allowed you to pay, if you pay anything at all after jumping through those fabulous loopholes offered to the insanely rich. No. I’m talking about your real fair share.

When you become equal to us, the people that are the salt of this country, then I might have more respect for your words. Until then, I am pretty certain that the only people that will take stock in them are the ones that are just like you.

For everyone else…Occupy! Not because you have nothing to do, but because it’s your American right to use your voice and to ensure that it is heard!

What can you tell us about your new movie?
I Am Number Four is an action-packed adventure entwined with a romantic story – and I play the role of John Smith. John wants to be a normal kid, but he is from a different planet and he has been given this destiny of becoming a warrior. John tries to find out who he is and what he wants to do with his life, but he has a bit of a tough time with it all. I think a lot of people are going to relate to what he goes through in the story because it’s about an outsider trying to fit in. We’ve all been there.

When were you an outsider?
Well, I think we’ve all been in that scenario where we’ve felt like we were alone or different. Everyone goes through that.

What was it like to work with Dianna Agron on the movie?
It was great. Dianna has an old-school movie star quality to her and I had an amazing time working with her, but I also had a great time working with the rest of the cast. Everyone on the set was amazing.

Who else stars in the movie with you?
An actress called Teresa Palmer is a young ball of energy and we also have a guy called Callan McAuliffe who is great. Working with everyone on the movie was phenomenal. We all fit together really well.

Can you live a normal life in Hollywood?
You can live a very normal life here. Los Angeles is a very magical place when you take the entertainment industry out of it. You have beautiful beaches and amazing mountains here. I’m a big rock climber. I head out into the mountains whenever I have free time. It’s amazing.

What else do you like about California?
There’s so much to explore here – and I love exploring. There are not many places in the world where you can get to the beach in an hour, the desert in two hours and snowboarding or skiing in three hours. You can do all that in California.

It sounds like you’re a very active, outdoors guys… Did you enjoy tackling such a physical role in I Am Number Four?
I loved it. I jumped off a cliff backwards for I Am Number Four, which was pretty cool. I’d never done that before. It took seven takes from different angles and luckily there were no injuries. I came close, though. My head nearly hit the rock at one point.

How high was the cliff dive?
The cliff was 60 feet high and it was extremely memorable. You know what? I’m a big kid at heart. Not many guys get to experience what I’ve experienced. I get to run around a movie set with guns and I get to jump off cliffs. It’s amazing. I had the time of my life shooting the movie.

How much training did you do for the role?
I spent months preparing for the stunts in the movie. It was a really physical role, but it was also a lot of fun. We practiced and practiced and practiced – but it was still a very nerve-wracking experience. I loved every minute of it.

Why did you sign up for the movie?
I was really excited to work on the movie for a number of reasons. First of all, I really wanted to work with the director, D.J. Caruso. He’s incredible. Plus, I really liked the premise of the movie. It’s been amazing.
