Review: Fairytale Brownies

July 23, 2010 1 Comment »

How can someone not like brownies? When done right they are soft with nice crunchy sides, they ooze chocolate (in the sense that everywhere you bite is all chocolate), and they make all your troubles melt away…at least for a minute or two. Brownies have a way of lifting a person’s spirits and they are an excellent excuse to get them to drink a glass of milk.

Fairytale Brownies might be one of many mail order brownie bakeries, but please believe me when I say they are a true gem as far as mail order bakeries go. I knew I was going to love them when I found the website. I was thrilled to find out they were sending me a dozen to try them out. I had no clue how fabulous they really would be though until I tasted them. Magnificence is the only word to describe them.

These brownies might not have that little crunch I mentioned, but the delectable flavors and smooth chocolate taste make up for that. It also doesn’t hurt that they practically melt in your mouth. They are as close to brownie perfection as I have found in a very long time. Well, outside of my own kitchen that is, and being fair, I have to say that these are better than even my own.

The flavors included in the standard dozen:
Original
Caramel
Chocolate Chip
Cream Cheese
Espresso Nib
Mint Chocolate
Peanut Butter
Pecan
Raspberry Swirl
Toffee Crunch
Walnut
White Chocolate

I will admit we have not consumed all flavors at this point in the review. That being said the ones we have eaten have been fantastic. So far we’ve eaten the Toffee Crunch, Cream Cheese, Chocolate Chip, Mint Chocolate, and the Peanut Butter. Oh those, I claimed the Mint Chocolate and the Toffee. CT, who normally won’t eat anything from a company that he doesn’t recognize, eagerly chowed down on the Peanut Butter and the Chocolate Chip. Meanwhile, Nana had the Cream Cheese. Dom, sadly, opted out of this taste test because he is trying to avoid anything that might be deemed as higher calorie (like most desserts).

Everyone that ate a brownie absolutely loved it. CT’s favorite of the two he ate was the peanut butter, which he claims was the most “scrumptious.” Nana loved the Cream Cheese brownie and she is by far the pickiest person in the house when it comes to baked goods (she is the baker in the house, so she holds other baked goods to a high standard of inspection). As for me, I have to say that Mint Chocolate was beyond heavenly. I am pretty sure that nothing will be able to trump the smooth fudgy brownie and the thin layer of amazing mint chocolate icing on top. My mouth waters just thinking about the amazing flavor.

The shipping experience was flawless. The brownies arrived in a standard shipping box with some cold packs protecting them. It was so hot that the cold packs were not that cold any longer, but luckily we were home when the package arrived so there were no issues with the brownies overheating in the hot sun. Each brownie is individually packed so you don’t have to worry about opening them and not eating them fast enough. According to the in-box instructions, if you are not eating your brownies within a week, you should freeze them.

A dozen of the Fairytale Brownies comes in a cardboard, gift-style box for a grand total of $33.95. That comes out to about $2.80 per brownie. Considering these are rich enough and big enough that you could share these (or eat them on your own if you really want to indulge) I have to say, the price isn’t that bad. It’s certainly better than the price of many brownies that you will find in a local bakery and since they are as equally fresh you have got to try these. Fairytale Brownies will not disappoint!
