Justin Roberts Releases JUNGLE GYM
The newest release from kindie music star is due June 8, 2010
(Chicago, May 17, 2010) — Jungle Gym, the seventh family music release from Justin Roberts, is a collection of 12 new original songs taking listeners on a journey through the iconic moments of childhood. It’s an often funny and rocking ride: from magical moments sailing on a moonlit cardboard box, through the temporary trauma of getting lost, to the anticipation and wonder of a school fire drill. Jungle Gym will be available nationwide on June 8th from Carpet Square Records (Sony/RED distribution). For more information, visit www.justinrobertsmusic.com.
Fans may download a new Justin Roberts song, “Sleepoverland” by visiting Music Today , and hear a one-hour “Rumpus Room” concert on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio’s Kids Place Live show four times over the weekend of June 4-6.
Justin Roberts’ colorful lyrics paint portraits of experiences that are formative to every child. Roberts has a distinct way of capturing the essence of the most memorable times in childhood with his inspiring lyrics, catchy hooks and lush rhythms. The album title comes from a line in the song “Sign My Cast,” in which an injured kid is left behind as his friends get to go play outside. A brother’s out-of-control fascination with large moving vehicles spurs the rousing song “Obsessed by Trucks.” And when a kid is “stuck here with this man with sharp objects in his hand,” it can only mean that it’s a “New Haircut.”
Produced by Not Ready for Naptime band member and multi-instrumentalist Liam Davis, Jungle Gym features pounding drums, vintage guitars, strange and fanciful time changes, and elegant flutes and French horns. Intricate vocals are always a hallmark of Justin Roberts music, and with Jungle Gym, the bar is raised again, with some songs featuring many as 24 vocal tracks.
Justin Roberts’ music never fails to generate excitement. A recent profile in the New York Times dubs him “the Judy Blume of kiddie rock,” and Time magazine (May 17) calls him “a brilliant crafter of power pop tunes.” His last recording, Pop Fly, was named one of the “10 Best Children’s CDs of 2008” by NPR, USA Today and Amazon.com. Time Out New York recently recognized his 2006 release Meltdown as one of the “Best Children’s CDs” of the past 30 years. Likewise, Parents’ Choice selected Not Naptime (2003) as one of the “Best 25 CDs of the last 25 Years.”
Justin and the Not Ready for Naptime Players travel the country, performing more than 120 concerts a year at venues ranging from school classrooms and community halls to major theaters and festivals.
