Food Review: Kim and Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels

July 16, 2009 No Comments »

In our family we are not big pretzel people. It’s safe to say we don’t mind fresh bakery pretzels, but we do not indulge that often. In fact, I cannot remember the last time that we enjoyed pretzels without a reason. However, we are fans of Kim and Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels. These amazing pretzels are stuffed with just about any tasty combination that you can imagine and they only take a few minutes in the oven (or microwave) until they are hot and ready for you to eat.

If you want to enjoy Kim and Scott’s and your local grocery does not sell the retail box flavors, you can order them direct through the Kim & Scott’s Pretzel website. Chances are you probably live near a store that has them though. More and more stores are beginning to stock them, including Meijer, Whole Foods, and Albertsons.

Speaking of retail, the flavors include Bavarian, Sourdough Parmesan, Apple Cinnamon, Cheddar Jalapeno, Chocolate Crumb, Cinnamon Roll, Cream Cheese, Egg & Cheese, Grilled Cheese, Pizza Pretzel, and Spinach Feta. If you opt to buy direct from their website you have many additional options and have the chance to buy a variety box, so you can try all of the different awesome flavors.

Health nuts will be happy to know that Kim & Scott’s uses only the finest ingredients available. The pretzels are all-natural and do not include trans fats, hydrogenated oils, or preservatives. They are even made in a nut-free facility. You can be assured these pretzels are fresh, too. These delicious morsels are made from scratch and twisted by hand before being sent out to your doorstep or the store where you buy them. It doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to frozen food options.

Kim and Scott’s was nice enough to send us a 10 pack of their Original Variety Pack. This pack retails for $27.99 and includes 1 of each of the following pretzels:

Apple Cinnamon
Original Cheesecake (ours was actually Pumpkin Cheesecake)
Mixed Berry
Chocolate Crumb
Cinnamon Roll
Pizza Pretzel
Cheese Lover’s
Spinach Feta
Grilled Cheese
Cream Cheese

When it comes to the taste I have to admit, there really isn’t one that I didn’t like. They were all, at the very least, edible, though some were more popular than others. I think the same went for my family. The two that we were most disappointed in though were the Cream Cheese and the Pumpkin Cheesecake. We felt that the Cream Cheese was bland where flavor was concerned and therefore not one of our favorites. The Pumpkin Cheesecake, on the other hand, did not have much filling inside it, so it was hard to judge. The little that was in there, tasted great. I just wish there would have been more.

The most popular pretzel in the bunch was the Grilled Cheese. Just thinking about the Grilled Cheese Pretzel makes my mouth water! It was filled with yummy cheese and it tasted delicious. When I saw the cheese oozing out, I knew that I was going to love it. I would have been in heaven if they would have sent me ten of those. I am sure the rest of my family would have, too. Cheese lovers will love the Grilled Cheese and the Cheese Lovers. The Pizza Pretzel will probably be a favorite, as well. If you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend the Chocolate Crumb or the Cinnamon Roll. These are both stuffed to the brim with sweet goodness, just like the Grilled Cheese, but for dessert!

The three of us (Mom, Me, and Dom) tried to split every pretzel so we could all give an opinion on each. We came to the conclusion that Kim & Scott’s is the way to go if you’re looking for some gourmet pretzels. This is our order (from best to worst) based on the pretzels that we were offered.

Grilled Cheese
Cheese Lover’s
Chocolate Crumb
Cinnamon Roll
Pizza Pretzel
Spinach Feta
Apple Cinnamon
Mixed Berry
Original Cheesecake (ours was actually Pumpkin Cheesecake)
Cream Cheese

I highly recommend checking out Kim & Scott’s if you haven’t already. There are many places you can find them beyond their website. If you visit social networks like Twitter and Facebook make sure to add them to your friends/followers (the links are below). They often offer giveaways and free swag to the people on their lists. You won’t want to miss out with all of the great things that they have going on.
