The Make Your Own Chocolate Kit is not only fun, it makes chocolate that tastes richer and more decadent than you will find in your average grocery store. The kids will love making this with you and your entire family will love eating this rich and delicious treat – Highly Recommended!

I pride myself on being competent in the kitchen, but for some reason I was mildly intimidated when I received the Make Your Own Chocolate Kit from Glee. I don’t know why, but I thought that making chocolate would be a lot harder than it actually is. Come to find out it is one of the easiest things I have ever made. Of course, I am sure that some of this was due in part to the fabulous kit that Glee sent over.

CT and I made our chocolate together. CT is autistic and often refuses to try new foods or foods that are not of a specific brand. Still, when we receive things for review he always wants to try them or at the very least, help make them. I didn’t think he would try the chocolate, so I let him help me and because he has sensory issues and does not like heat, we opted to make the chocolate in the microwave (the other option uses a double boiler method).

In the kit you receive cocoa butter, cocoa powder, chocolate crystals, confectioners’ sugar, and a couple cocoa beans. The beans are just to try on your own. The rest makes your delicious chocolate once you follow the simple directions. Everything is presented in a clear and easy to understand manner. This is seriously so easy, a child could do it!

Things begin by melting the cocoa butter. This takes about three minutes via the microwave, though with the double boiler it might take a few minutes longer. Once the butter is all melted you stir in the sugar and the cocoa powder until everything is well mixed and free of lumps. This is where things begin to come together. I added a dash of vanilla, per the recommendation in the directions, and then I had a small problem.

At this point it would normally be tempering time. You would place a sticky temperature meter on your bowl or pan and wait for it to change color once the temperature is right for tempering the chocolate. Once the mixture is the right temperature you place the crystals in, stir until dissolved and its time to set your chocolate!

As I did not have the temperature sticks I used my best judgment as to when would be the right time to place the crystals in and move things along. To set the chocolate I used muffin sized paper tins. This gave me the idea to make one of CT’s favorite treats. CT loves peanut butter cups. I didn’t know if he would eat these because they weren’t his normal brand, but I was hopeful. It was incredibly simple to make them.

I just dropped a nice sized dollop of the chocolate into the lining, topped with some creamy peanut butter, and added more chocolate to finish things off! The directions instruct you to place the chocolate into the fridge at this point, and wait a minimum of 15 minutes. To my surprise, when I took them out CT was willing to try one. I gave him a bite of mine and he asked for his own! Not only that, but as I was giving Dominick some to try, CT came in and told him how “amazingly delicious” they were.

It seems that my worry was all for nothing. These Make Your Own Chocolate Kits are simple to use and the chocolate tastes absolutely delicious. You can make plain chocolate, which is quite good on its own or you can experiment and make peanut butter cups or your other favorite chocolate treats! Whatever you decide to do I highly recommend this kit to chocolate lovers and their family!
