Episodes: Four discs filled with classic cartoon shorts
This set of Looney Tunes shorts is definitely meant for the diehard Tunes fan in the family. There is something for everyone here. The entire family will enjoy some of the more common, popular character-driven shorts in the bunch. The adults and history lovers will like the war shorts that focus on WWII, when they were made. It stands to reason that some may not like these, but they are certainly interesting to watch at least once. In addition to the shorts there are a wide range of special features that add to the collection in all the right ways.
The major detraction for purchasing this set may just be the price. This set sells for around $50 at most stores, sometimes more. This can be a lot to pay for a series of cartoons shorts. If you decide you do not want to spend that much, you might want to look for the Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection, which offers some of the same great shorts in the Golden Collection with less frills and a lower price.
If you decide to purchase this set you won’t have any real need to pick up the Spotlight Collection. The main difference between the two sets, no matter the volume, is that the Golden Collection is the more complete set of the two. So, if you pick up the Spotlight set and find that you like it, you might want to go for the Golden if you find there is something here that you’re missing out on.

Episodes: A less expensive pairing of episodes from the Golden Collection
A few years back Warner Bros began releasing Looney Tunes on DVD. In most cases people were more than willing to shell out the dough for the highly anticipated Looney Tunes Golden Collections. These collections are chalked full of popular episodes that were made throughout the years. Of course, they are expensive and there were people that just could not afford to pay for the various collections. This brought about the Spotlight Collections. Each of the Spotlight Collections is just a rehashing of the Golden Collection without the frills. This allows people to enjoy the shorts at a cheaper cost. Since the cartoons are really the most important thing, the Spotlight Collections work best for most people because you don’t have to pay as much (they are under $25) and you usually get the best cartoons out of the bunch.
As a kid I loved watching Looney Tunes. I was obsessed with Tweety. I remember that I would always end my Saturday morning cartoons ritual with The Bugs and Daffy Hour. It was a great show that probably introduced a lot of 80s kids to the Looney Tunes. I have to imagine that these collections are going to be best for adults missing the days of good cartoons.
I don’t say that because these cartoons are not child friendly. I say that because I could see the soccer mom’s complaining about the violence that often occurs in the Looney Tunes shorts. Most adults these days grew up with these cartoons and I like to think we did just fine, but some parents shy against the best cartoons for their own reasons.

I was really excited to receive a MyLife Portable Device by Playmates Toys. I often let my best friend’s little girls review girl-friendly toys because I only have a son and a nephew. With a seven year old, Miss D and a three year old, Miss K, my friend is always willing to let me stop by and play with the kids when I have something for them to review.
This time, K and mom went to play with some dolls while I spent the day with D. At age seven, she’s the perfect age for the MyLife. This bright pink, lightweight handheld is recommended for ages 7-11. Let me just say, this was a huge hit with D. She loved the MyLife so much, she asked me to bring it back the next day, so she could play with it again. As you can imagine, she’s now the proud recipient of her very own MyLife and her mom says she goes everywhere with the toy!
What D loves the most about the MyLife is how customizable it is. She is in control of the game and her character. She had the chance to make her own character and she also had the opportunity to download other items to make her character unique to her. This was a great self-esteem and confidence booster for D. She loved the freedom she was given to create any character she wanted. She also enjoyed the fact that we trusted her to be responsible for her new toy.
Positives & Negatives:
There are many good things about the MyLife Portable Device. This toy, which is specifically designed for girls, has only a few, mildly negative things about it. The good truly outweighs the bad.
Positives:
Lightweight
Cute Concept
Attractive Color for Little Girls
Teaches Responsibility
Trendy, Sleek Design
Fun for Kids
Highly Customizable

Prepare for a lame, dash back to the 1980s when you watch the episodes in the Silverhawks Season One, Volume One DVD Box Set. I loved Thundercats growing up. This was the Rankin-Bass space equivalent, only it lacked the story, the characters and the dialogue that made me such a huge fan of Thundercats. I don’t even remember watching this show. It only had a short run during the time I was five years old, so I doubt I got into watching this sad attempt at Thundercats emulation.
Sure, the idea for Silverhawks isn’t overly original. This kind of story has been done before. It might even be comparable to cartoons like Legion of Superheroes, where a bunch of good guys form a team join together to fight the evil galactic forces. The only difference is that all of these heroes in Silverhawks are cyborgs. That is, they are half human/half-metal made beings. Essentially, the Silverhawks team are bionic beings.
How can anyone like this show? There are characters who fight with music. That is, they try to destroy each other with musical notes. Just look at Bluegrass, who is supposed to be the pilot of the group. He’s a bad, 1970s-style cowboy with an Elvis scarf and a honky-tonk guitar. He was also never without his cowboy hat. As if the characters aren’t overly lame enough (speaking of, how about the twins, Steel Will and Steal Heart?), the whole point of this show was for the Silverhawks to take down Mon*Star and his team of equally as pathetically named cronies. Get out the wine because this entire series is full of cheese!
