My son is 13. He’s a huge fan of Saturday morning cartoons. While he’s more into 4KidsTV, he’s always liked the Kids WB lineup (now CW4Kids), as well. I’ve found that, for me, the shows on either of these networks are either hit or miss. Some of the shows are great. Many remind me of my youth, growing up watching the amazing cartoons of the 1980s. Some are updated versions of shows from my era (TMNT, anyone?) and some are new adaptions of old classics. Legion of Super-Heroes fits in the latter category. It’s yet another Superman based adaptation.
Ashtyn had the chance to review Legion of Super-Heroes, Vol. 1. I’m not exactly sure why we never reviewed Volume 2. Here we are now with Legion of Super-Heroes, Vol. 3. The entire series is either going to be hit or miss with fans of the “Legion of Superheroes” comic book. You have to remember that this show was designed for a younger audience, so it isn’t going to hold the same characteristics it would for adult fans of the series. With that in mind, and its relatability to its audience, this show isn’t that bad.
Unlike many other cartoon adaptations, Legion of Super-Heroes attempted to branch out its roots from this very successful comic book series. The comic book has run for over 50 years. This series only managed to last two seasons. Still, this show isn’t terrible. It’s actually kind of interesting. The animation is stylish and this is a show parents can easily get into watching with their children. The only disappointing part about the Legion of Super-Heroes, Vol. 3 DVD is how few episodes there are. It would have been nice for Warner to just put out a complete season DVD. For some reason, you have to buy these in volumes and the price definitely adds up.
