THE MAGIC OF CRAYOLA HITS THE BACKYARD There’s Something New in Sandbox Chic This Year and It’s All About Color

(25 March 2008 – Grapevine, Texas) – It’s been a long winter. Kids across the country are so ready to hit the great outdoors! New Crayola play sand answers the call to “Get Out and Play!” with the introduction of COLOR to the sandbox. This ultra-high quality play sand comes in four dynamic colors, sure to supercharge a variety senses in any sandbox.

Imagine your child’s sandbox filled with the softest sand available that delights visually in vibrant hues of pink, purple, blue and green. With the addition of Crayola play sand, not only is the sandbox transformed into a colorful bed of creativity, the sheer smooth texture and flow of the sand delights tactile senses of all ages. Early childhood development experts agree that sand play is one of the most important and beneficial activities for children to engage in to develop a wide variety of motor, spatial and social skills.

“Sand play is open-ended and allows children the freedom to build and strengthen development of their small and large muscle motor skills, eye-hand coordination, mathematical, vocabulary and socialization skills,” said Cheri Sterman, director of child development, Crayola. “Now, the benefits of sand play are taken to a new dimension with the addition of color. It’s creative learning driven solely by imagination and no batteries nor game pod needed.”

There are few things in life that kids really have control over. But let them loose in a sandbox and they become rulers of their own universe – carving out roads and ditches, driving trucks into gullies and loading up dumpsters, buckets and containers of sensory pleasing – and colorful – sand!

According to statistics, one in three children in the United States falls into a category of obesity. With the unending plethora of video and computer games and lack of activity it’s no wonder the mantra among childhood development experts (and the media) is to “Get Out and Play!” One fantastic play area that offers so much is as simple as the backyard sandbox.

Getting the new colored play sand to the sandbox is a snap because they’re available in 20-pound “mom-friendly” bags that feature an easy-to-carry handle. Suggested retail price for Crayola play sand is certified CP Nontoxic and is available at select WalMart stores nationwide. The suggested retail price is $7.99.

About this sand–how did it get green or pink or ??

Did it come from The Big Green Rock Mountain? Or is dye added?

I am testing to see if stains appear when I mix water, fabric, and the sand.

I have to admit I’m curious if it leaves stains as well. I’d hope not since it is made by Crayola. If anyone knows please do share! Thanks!

I just want other parents to know that my kids had an awful reaction to this new pink color play sand. The rash they all got on their bodies was awful and it stained there skin. We ended up for a doctors visit and left with medication to treat their rash. About a 1/2 hr of playing in it my 3 yr old said “mommy it burns” so I took them out of it but it was too late and they were covered in this rash. So just an FYI to parents out there take caution.

Wow – sounds like it was something other than the sand. My kids have this sand and so do 7 others in my neighborhood and all of them report no stains – not even on clothing! Crayola would never put a product out there that could be harmful to children – I am sure this went through much testing.

Anyway – blue turned out to be the neighborhood favorite!

I bought the blue and green sand. I had no problems with it. No staining or rashes. My kids LOVE it and I can’t keep them out of the sand box.

I am curious where to even buy this product. I have searched the crayola website as well as the walmart website. I am looking for colored play sand and can’t seem to find it anywhere!

You can locate Walmart stores in your area that carry Crayola play sand by going to N2mgroup.com and clicking on the Store Locator tab. Then simply enter you zip code. Good luck!

I use this in my hermit crab tank and it is fine. I have been using it for 1 month so far and I have had no problems with it. I don’t have a sand box for my kids but I have played with it in a small container and it seems to be fine. I didn’t turn colors, get a rash or anything. My hermits are not stained either. By the way I have the purple. It brings much needed color to an otherwise boring tank.

I also bought the sand for my hermit crabs. I was paying $17.99 for a 10 lb bag at PetCo and when I saw the Crayola play sand 20 lbs for $3.49 I was thrilled! My hermits love it and I love the colors. We have blue right now and im sure to try others. Thanks Crayola!
