Action figures are normally designed for older children. Little kids often get leftout when their older brothers, sisters, and cousins are playing with these figures. Well not anymore! The Planet Heroes series of action figures designed by Fisher Price is specifically designed with little kids in mind. The action figures are for children between the ages of 3 and7. This sounded like the perfect toy for my nephew, Lil B to play with and let me know what he thought of the toy. Just to let you know ahead of time, he gives this toy, two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
I have to say that I absolutely love the detail on these action figures. While the characters look more cartoonish then the average action figure, the design is inviting to a child who is younger. Your preschool and elementary school child will feel like a big kid when they play with Earth Ace and Mars Digger. Besides, the toys have really cool accessories and they are fun to play with even if you are an older aunt or uncle like I am.
Requirements:
There do not appear to be any requirements needed to make these toys work. No batteries are necessary. The only thing is that the cables holding the toys in will require wire cutters or something similar to release the toy from the packaging. Otherwise, these guys are good to go right out of the package. I love when toys are this easy with little to no assembly required and I am thankful that Fisher Price has been consistently providing toys with little to no hassle when kids are so anxious to play with their new toys.
Basics
Earth Ace comes with his super board. It has an attached super computer. He also has a helmet, which isn’t on in the packaging, but it can be placed on or off at each child who plays with the toy’s whim. Lil B loved the helmet, so he kept it on Earth Ace most of the time. The super board has little wings on its side since it is a super board after all, with the ability to fly (as each child’s imagination allows). You can press a button in the back of the board to make the wings pop out. This is how the board transforms from a regular board into the super board. This figure also comes with a collectible, Earth Ace trading card and a bonus DVD entitled Planet Heroes: Ace in Space. The card is signed by Ace himself!
Mars Digger is a big guy. He comes in a colorful reddish brown shade with an attractive red suit. Mars Digger comes with his spinning drill, his battle shield, and a trading card. The spinning drill actually spins. You just pull a cord and watch it go. The battle shield can actually be held by Digger. The trading card has his signature simply as “Digger”. This also comes with the DVD Planet Heroes: Ace in Space.
The Planet Heroes Action Figures are all going for around $8 through Fisher Price. All of the boxes for these toys have facts on them kids can use to learn about the planets. For example, Earth Ace has facts about the Earth on the back of his package. Funnily enough, his shoulders are molded after the continents. His hair is also spiky and they actually draw it so you can see the jagged edges of each spike. It’s crazy, but cool. Mars Digger is colored in the hues we generally associate with the red planet. He is a tank and doesn’t look like anyone you would want to fight.
In Depth Information
The 7” Earth Ace is described by Fisher Price as an “ordinary earth boy” by day and the head of the Planet Heroes Team, the boy genius “Earth Ace” by night. The Planet Heroes team is working to fight a powerful and sinister enemy known as the Black Hole or Professor Darkness. It is Professor Darkness’ goal to destroy the solar system. It is up to the Planet Heroes to save the day. Earth Ace is just one of a group of superheroes geared towards saving the planet and solar system as a whole. Earth Ace uses power from his super computer, which is located on his super board. If the bad guys are on his tail, his board can transform into a flying machine, by changing from a regular skateboard into a super board with wings.
The 7” Mars Digger is hardcore. This bad boy is actually good, as he helps the Planet Heroes crew out. If I were a bad guy, I wouldn’t want to mess with him. Mars Digger helps the Planet Heroes crew dig and disappear into the Earth through secret tunnels. The gang can travel to secret hideaways that Digger digs, which is especially convenient when the Planet Heroes need a quick getaway. Digger is also good at hiding the galaxies greatest treasures in the caves he digs. He is protected by his battle shield and body armor. Digger is the ultimate hero providing a way in and out of all the places the Planet Heroes crew needs to go.

Bottom Line: The Planet Heroes toys are both fun and educational. Preschoolers and 5-7 year olds will love these toys. I recommend them for any 3-7 year old who is interested in superheroes and in the planets and solar system. I can see boys and girls enjoying the Planet Heroes action figures though more boys will probably want to have this toy then girls. Either way, any child can find something about this toy to enjoy and use to fill their time. If you know a preschooler who loves adventure, buy them the Planet Heroes Earth Ace or Mars Digger. You (and they) won’t regret it. |
