Muscular Dystrophy Patients United Announces Family Adoption Program this Christmas

November 29, 2007

Nannies4hire.com

Burton, Michigan – November 26, 2007: Muscular Dystrophy Patients United wishes to announce a new program to help families that have children with Muscular Dystrophy this Christmas. This year, MDP United will be listing between 5-10 families on our website. Volunteers can adopt the family, a child, or help buy presents to provide the family with an amazing Christmas. Each child in the family will have a wish list, of what they want for Christmas this year. With the cost of living so high for everyone, families with disabled children are truly struggling and assistance during the holiday season is especially important.

While the child with the disability is the only required adoptee, siblings will also have their wish lists posted. We would love for multiple volunteers to adopt one family so each child in the family gets the wish they truly want this year. Additionally, parents will be given the option of listing 2-3 stores where they would like gift cards, to help purchase more presents or necessities for themselves and their children this Christmas.

If you would like to volunteer and adopt a family, please email MDP United. Also, you can check back regularly to find a list of our wish children that you can adopt this Christmas. As always, you can donate money to us through Paypal and we can purchase the presents for you. A list of volunteers will be displayed on our main homepage, in thanks for your donations.

To see a list of children and their families, which you can adopt, this holiday season, click here.

About MDP United:
Muscular Dystrophy Patients United (MDP United) was founded by Dominick Evans who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy. As a former ambassador for another MD organization and a patient dealing with every day disability issues, Dominick understands exactly what individuals with Muscular Dystrophy go through on a daily basis. The other organizations, while they are able to help in their own way, do not provide all of the services those with Muscular Dystrophy need to live healthy, happy, and productive lives.

The main goal of MDP United is to provide support, services, education, and information about Muscular Dystrophy and all of the diseases that fall within its boundaries that are not available anywhere else. In the United States, resources are limited, and yet equipment, specialty medical services, and other necessary programs simply are not available. Through the MDP fundraisers, awareness of these diseases can and will be established and money can be made for services.

DVD Review: Peter Pan Return to Never Land

Peter Pan Return to Neverland Box ArtWriter: Temple Mathews, J.M. Barrie
Director: Robin Budd, Donovan Cook
Cast: Harriet Owen, Blayne Weaver, Corey Burton, Jeff Bennett, Katie Soucie, Andrew McDonough, Spencer Breslin
Rating: G
Studio: Disney Studios
Release Date: November 27, 2007

Disney sequels usually tend to come out looking like other sequels. Most of the time, they are unnecessary and meant to make money. However, every now and then there is one worth watching or even buying because it is just that good. In this case, that extra special sequel would be Peter Pan Return to Never Land.

I was surprised to find that this wasn’t another cheesy, useless film, and that instead, I really seemed to like it. A surprise to me was that I liked it as much as I did the original Peter Pan. Of course, the difference between seeing this one now and the original back when I was a child is that I am a much harsher critic than I was as a child. Despite that fact, Peter Pan Return to Never Land won me over and made me a fan. It is one of the best children’s movies to come out in recent years and it is worth the purchase be it as a Christmas present or just to extend your child’s DVD collection.

DVD Review: My Friends Tigger & Pooh - Super Sleuth Christmas Movie

November 24, 2007

Super Sleuth XMas DVD Box ArtWriter: Janna King Kalichman
Director: N/A
Cast: Dee Bradley Baker, Jim Cummings, Chloe Moretz, Travis Oates, Ken Sansom, Max Burkholder, Oliver Dillion
Rating: Not Rated
Studio: Walt Disney Studios
Release Date: November 20, 2007

I have met my fair share of Winnie the Pooh purists who are not fond of the My Friends Tigger & Pooh series. At first, I was not sure I would be a fan either. The show is made in CGI and I felt that would hold back my interest some. I am used to the old versions of Pooh and the gang and thought I would not like the CGI enhanced group.

Others are not fond of it because of the lack of comparison to the original Pooh books and series. The lack of Christopher Robin and the addition of Darby are off-putting to many. However, it is important to realize that this is not meant to be that original Pooh that so many of us know and love. This is meant to be something new and while different, it still proves to be as enjoyable as the original.

Release Information:
My Friends Tigger & Pooh - Super Sleuth Christmas Movie was released on DVD on November 20, 2007. The series began in 2007 and airs on the Disney Channel. The show targets pre-school age children with a Dora the Explorer type of mystery show where kids follow the Super Sleuths to solve a mystery.

DVD Review: SpongeBob Squarepants: Atlantis SquarePantis

November 23, 2007

Planet Earth HD Set for $29.95 plus FREE shipping!

Atlantis SquarepantisWriter: Numerous
Director: Numerous
Cast: Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence
Rating: Y7
Studio: Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures
Release Date: November 13, 2007

As a lover of SpongeBob Squarepants it was a natural choice to have me do this review. There is something incredibly comical about this show. Spongebob is a sponge that isn’t the brightest sponge in Bikini Bottom, but he’s certainly the most entertaining. He’s easily excitable, a hard worker, frightened of his own shadow, and someone who attempts to be a good friend, even when you don’t want one.

Despite being a big fan of SpongeBob Squarepants, I always remain wary of cartoons that release a set number of episodes the way this was done. SpongeBob Squarepants: Atlantis SquarePantis is a short film with a set of episodes that go along with the movie to lengthen the overall DVD. While I remained skeptical, the DVD isn’t that bad. It’s in true SpongeBob Squarepants form and if you are buying this for kids you can be sure that they will love it!

DVD Review: Talespin - Volume Two

November 22, 2007

iWin, Inc.

Talespin Volume 2 BoxWriter: Steve Roberts, Mark Edens, Chuck Tately, Libby Hinson, and others
Director: Larry Latham, Robert Taylor, Jamie Mitchell, Ed Ghertner
Cast: Sally Struthers, Jim Cummings, Ed Gilbert, R.J. Williams, Pat Fraley, Tony Jay
Rating: Y7
Studio: Buena Vista and Disney
Release Date: November 13, 2007

Talespin follows the adventures of everyone’s favorite Disney bear as he flies through the air and tries to stay out of (or get into) too much trouble. Of course, Baloo has lots of help from his young buddy, Kit Cloudkicker, and his other friends that are always there to lend a bear a helping hand.

I remember fondly when Talespin came to the Disney Channel back in the 90s. The network aired a pilot to the show to drum up some interest. I just happened to be watching that day and I ended up watching the other episodes as a result. Disney rarely disappoints in the area of cartoons. Talespin - Volume Two is not only worth watching, it’s a must have for lovers of The Jungle Book and Disney Cartoons.

DVD Review: The Santa Clause 3 – The Escape Clause

November 21, 2007

LEGO Shop at Home

Santa Clause 3Writer: Leo Benvenuti (characters), Steve Rudnick (characters) Ed Decter, John J. Strauss
Director: Michael Lembeck
Cast: Tim Allen, Elizabeth Mitchell, Martin Short, Eric Lloyd, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Spencer Breslin, Liliana Mumy, Ann-Margaret, Alan Arkin, Aisha Tyler
Rating: G
Studio: Walt Disney Video
Release Date: November 20, 2007

We like our family oriented Christmas movies to be light, fluffy, and filled with marshmallow-y goodness. That is, if they are not funny comedies like Christmas Vacation, which we expect to be sometimes crude, sometimes crass, and always hilarious. That being said, when we watched The Santa Clause 3 – The Escape Clause, we expected a gooey family flick. This is exactly what we got. While some reviewers aren’t quite as fond as this movie, we believe they took the movie way too seriously. You can’t do that with Christmas movies. This wasn’t the best of The Santa Clause movies, but it wasn’t the worst Christmas movie ever either. It fits into the category of “final chapter” of a truly unique Christmas series that has become a Christmas classic for many families including our own.

We were teenagers when the original The Santa Clause came out. At the time, we both enjoyed the film. Now that we have our own family and child, we find The Santa Clause movies even more enjoyable. While The Santa Clause 3 – The Escape Clause isn’t as witty as the first The Santa Clause it is still enjoyable enough to appease both kids and parents and ends the story for Scott Calvin on a note which feels both heartwarming and complete.

DVD Review: Ducktales – Volume 3

November 20, 2007

I still know all the words to theme song for Ducktales. The show was one of my favorite Disney television shows. I loved watching Ducktales, Talespin, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, The Gummi Bears, and Darkwing Duck. This line up was daily fare in my house. After school was out, Disney had some of the best shows on for kids. These cartoons have remained in the hearts of those of us who watched the show regularly and now we’re introducing them to our own children thanks to the re-release of these Disney shows on DVD from Walt Disney Video and Buena Vista Entertainment.

Ducktales featured some of the best and most entertaining Disney storylines with mayhem, mystery and a lot of fun involved. Who didn’t want to be related to the cantankerous Uncle Scrooge, who just happens to secretly have a big and caring heart? I know that after the show was over, I’d often pretend I was off on my own adventure,
