Book Review: Wiggle and Waggle by: Caroline Arnold

Wiggle and Waggle BookWiggle and Waggle are two worms that live in the dirt. These two worms are pretty typical as far as worms go. They are cartoon cute, they like to have fun, and they work a lot to keep the soil as fresh as possible. The story of Wiggle and Waggle explains the adventures of this duo in and out of the garden. While the two spend plenty of time working, they also like to go swimming, have picnics, and do plenty of other fun things.

Illustrated by Mary Peterson, the pictures in Wiggle and Waggle are just too adorable for words. I love how one worm even wears tiny spectacles to help him see better. The colors used in the book are incredibly subtle and the drawings are easily comprehended. They work so well you could almost make up your own stories with the drawings that occur on every page.

This is my first experience reviewing Charles Bridge books. I have to say that after looking at the quality and reading the adorable story, I am very impressed with this particular company. Wiggle and Waggle was something different, refreshing, and fun to read with children.

Another great thing about this book is that it’s perfect for young readers. A child that is a new reader should not have much difficulty picking up this great tale and reading it to you. This book was released in early June, 2007. The book comes covered in a slipcover that is designed in exactly the same way as the book cover is designed. On Amazon you can pick up this hardcover for just a little over $10, making it quite a steal. At other stores this price may be higher or lower, as the book lists a price closer to $13.

Wiggle and Waggle starts on page six and ends on page 48. On the last page you are able to check out various worm facts, including “There are more than two thousand kinds of worms in the world.” On this last page they also have some information to help children understand why worms actually help plants to grow like they do.

If you are looking for some books to offer a younger child whether it is to tell them a new story or to help them practice their reading, I highly recommend Wiggle and Waggle by Caroline Arnold. This refreshing story will keep children entertained and will give them confidence when they see they are able to read the story without your help. Wiggle and Waggle is recommended for children from birth to age seven.
