SCHOLASTIC AUDIO UNVEILS THE LATEST TITLE FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BEST-SELLING BOOK AND BROADWAY SMASH WICKED IN WHAT-THE-DICKENS: THE STORY OF A ROGUE TOOTH FAIRY
6 Disc Audiobook Set Narrated By Jason Culp to be Released in November in Coordinated Launch with the Candlewick Press September Hardcover
October 4, 2007 – This fall Scholastic Audio will continue its tradition of introducing the very best in children’s audiobook titles with the release of What-the-Dickens: The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fairy. From the mind of Gregory Maguire, author of the best-selling book and Broadway hit Wicked, What-the-Dickens: The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fairy transports readers to a tale-within-a-tale about the strange world of skibbereen – aka tooth fairies – and the universal need to believe. Scholastic Audio will release the 6-disc audiobook version of this story, in a coordinated release with the hardcover from Candlewick Press this November.
“What-the-Dickens is a wonderfully creative story that delves into one of the most popular children’s myths of all-time – the tooth fairy,” said Jennifer Feldman, Publisher, Scholastic Audio Group, a division of Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company. “Our audiobook version will capitalize on this amazing story and work to enhance the entertainment experience.”
Read by Jason Culp, What-the-Dickens: The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fairy will be available in an unabridged 7-hour set for the suggested retail price of $34.95.
WHAT-THE-DICKENS: THE STORY OF A ROGUE TOOTH FAIRY
On the darkest night, amidst a terrifying storm, Dinah’s parents go missing. While anxious Dinah and her brother and sister worry and huddle for warmth, their cousin Gage tell them an unlikely story—that tooth fairies, known as skibbereen, are living in warring colonies right in the neighborhood. According to Gage, they actually put those teeth to good use. And he, Gage, has met them. Dinah is skeptical, but as the story unfolds and the storm rages on, she begins to believe. By turns touching and comic, What-the-Dickens is a decidedly imaginative journey into myth that could only have been penned by that premier interpreter of the fairy-tale world, Gregory Maguire.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Gregory Maguire famously re-imagined Oz in Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and its sequel, Son of a Witch. For younger readers, he has written more than a dozen novels, including the Hamlet Chronicles, a humorous middle-grade series. Gregory Maguire co-founded Children’s Literature New England in 1986 and has taught children’s literature at Simmons College and elsewhere. He lives with his family outside Boston, Massachusetts.
ABOUT THE NARRATOR:
Jason Culp is an accomplished actor of stage and screen, with audiobook performances for bestselling authors John Irving and Peter Straub. He lives in New York City and is currently working on a novel of his own.
