First Puzzles is just what the name implies. It is a set of puzzles listed for children ages 3 and up. The box we were given includes 4 puzzles with 4 pieces each, for a total of 16 pieces for all of the puzzles. With a Mother Goose theme the puzzles include The Little Piggy Went to Market,
Three Little Kittens, Little Bo Peep, and Hey Diddle Diddle. The puzzles are made by MudPuppy and Barefoot Books. I have to admit that I was not familiar with Barefoot by name before we began reviewing children’s materials. However, now they are one of my favorite companies. I love their offerings and often look to see what is new on their shelves when it’s shopping time for my children or nephew.
One of the best things about these puzzles is the construction method. The come in a cardboard box that is decorated with pictures of the puzzles and some flattering pastel colors and designs.
The lid has a set of handles protruding from it so that kids can carry their box of puzzles around with them. The box is sturdy and appears to be able to take at least a small beating, as some kids will give it one. However, as long as the box stays in tact you can remove the puzzle pieces when it’s time to put them together and have the kids put them back in the box when they are done.
The graphics are simply beautiful and can only be compared to something off of a patchwork quilt. Additionally, the puzzle pieces are high quality and it would take quite a bit to bend or break them.
The list age is 3 and up but I checked this out with my nephew who is 2 and he just loved them. He didn’t have a hard time figuring them out after a minute and he loved the pictures he was able to make.
Bottom Line: If you are in the market for some easy starter puzzles for your children in a cute theme, these are definitely for you. The puzzles are easy enough to do them quickly, and fun enough to want to do them more than once.
Kids adore these puzzles and they will make a great activity for mom and dad to do with them. They will also work excellently when it comes to getting your younger children interested in puzzles.
